Nikkinne is my painter name and watercolors my game.  I paint recognizable images, using light as the primary element to define shape.  Layers of meaning, even hidden images often sneak into the sweet paintings.

Making art a viable form of employment means developing “Name Recognition.”  Being named “Artist of the Year” by the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce has given me a good start for 2011.   ‘Name Recognition’ is just part of the job. What really excites me is pushing myself in skill development.

Paintings are ‘by-products’ for me.  Valuable - yes, but not the goal.  My goal is to become the best, most versatile watercolor artist I can possible be.  I’m working on that goal by systematically expanding my knowledge and skill base.

To accomplish this, I use a simple pattern of behavior. I first assess my work and identify a weak area.  Second, I create a question or plan which, when answered, might strengthen that specific area.  Third, I consult with my mentor, Helen Klebesadel.  Forth, I alter the plan by incorporating the suggestions.  Then, because I work best under pressure, I schedule a show.  Parameters set, deadline looming, I begin to work.
