About Us |
Thank you for your interest in Co-Op Arts. We are a new artists’ co-operative with ten members, all of whom live in the Fairbanks, Alaska, area. The closing of three art galleries during the winter of 2009/10 significantly impacted the professional art community in Fairbanks. Not only do many artists no longer have a place to display their art, the public has lost the opportunity to enjoy the creativity and inspiration of a very talented segment of our community. With support and encouragement from the Co-Op Plaza and the Fairbanks Art League (a new organization under the Fairbanks Arts Association), Co-Op Arts aims to fill a small bit of the gap in the downtown arts scene. We opened the Co-Op Arts Fine Art Gallery, located in the Co-Op Plaza in downtown Fairbanks, on 5 August 2010. The Gallery is staffed solely by the member artists so you will always meet an artist when you visit us. The Gallery participates in the Fairbanks art scene’s tradition of “First Fridays,” hosting a reception from 5 pm to 8 pm on the First Friday of each month. Each First Friday features new work from the Co-Op artists, with the occasional guest artist. See our events page for information about our upcoming First Friday. See our artists page for information about our current artists. Due to limited gallery space, we currently limit the member group to ten so that each artist has a reasonable amount of display space for their work. However, as we mature as a business, it is possible that we may decide to add more artists in the future. Of course, should a member choose to leave the co-op, we will be looking for a replacement. Your interest in joining the Co-Op will always be encouraged. |
